If you have some cereal in your house this is the quickest recipe to turn it into treats.
We’ve been riding the cereal breakfast train in our home so I bought a family size bag of chex the other day. It’s actually a pretty decent way to start the day with some protein and healthy fats.
I’ve always wanted to make puppy chow (or muddy buddies, whatever you Americans call it in your special corner of Americana) It’s the cutesy name for me, but yes, also peanut butter and chocolate, one of the best combos ever known.
Of course I went the mini-batch route because I know us and our lack of attention span when it comes to dessert, as well as my lack of desire to stir giant bowls.
These came out very peanut buttery and chocolatey so I think they’re a bit more special. Try using any nut/seed butter you like. Hmm… next batch might be tahini for me! Homemade is best.
Let me know if you give these a try!
PS. I believe you can use cereal other than chex for this as well.
Mini-batch Puppy Chow
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp nut/seed butter (32 g) I used peanut butter
- 2 tbsp chocolate chips (30 g)
- 1 cup chex cereal (31 g) I used corn chex
- 3 tbsp powder sugar (21 g)
Instructions
- Add nut/seed butter and chocolate to a bowl and microwave 30 sec at a time and stir until all chocolate is melted and smoothly combined.
- Pour this over the cereal and stir to cover all the cereal pieces, refrigerate 5 min to cool the mixture to room temperature.
- Sprinkle 2 tbsp powder sugar and stir to coat. Refrigerate again 5-10 minutes until the pieces are no longer wet looking. Sprinkle the remaining powder sugar to coat completely.
- Enjoy! I kept mine in the fridge.
