It’s like eating one of those Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies for breakfast (or snack), but actually good for you!

This little pie packs 17g of protein (some added, but a bunch from natural sources like nut butter and oats) and no added sugar, some fiber from the banana and oats so you could literally eat it for breakfast.

Or make 2 little snack pies, it would be so good!

I got the inspiration from this product I would at a Dick’s sporting goods one weekend. It tasted OK, and had a bunch of weird ingredients (definitely looked better on the packaging), so I made a similar one at home to enjoy and keep making and sharing with my family.

I’ll show you a side by side comparison because I’m that much of a kitchen nerd.

One hand held breakfast treat with pretty much zero added sugar, just make sure to use a protein that you actually like the flavor of (plant-based if desired) – yes it has to be flavored if you want this to taste good!

If you absolutely hate bananas, use applesauce. And I’m making a mental note to make a pumpkin one in the fall, fo sho!

The point of the added fruit is health benefits, but also I find that adding some natural sweetener to a protein recipe helps balance out the fake protein taste significantly!

Let me know if you give this one a try!
Single-serving Oatmeal Protein Pie
Ingredients
Pie dough
- 2 tbsp mashed ripe banana (about 1/4 large banana) (21 g) sub applesauce or pumpkin puree
- 1 tbsp nut/seed butter (16 gā£) I used peanut butter, yum!
- 1 tbsp vanilla protein powder (7 g) plant-based if desired
- 2 tbsp rolled oats (10 g)
- 1/8 tsp baking soda
Cream filling
- 1 tbsp nut/seed butter (16 g)
- 1 tbsp vanilla protein powder (7 g)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 359F and line a baking dish with parchment.
- In a small bowl mash your banana, add nut butter, protein powder, oats and baking soda, stir to combine. It should be like oatmeal cookie dough, add a drop of water if it's too crumbly.
- Make two cookies on the parchment, flatten gently and bake 12 minutes. Let cool completely.
- In a small bowl mix nut butter and protein powder to make the cream filling. It should be spreadable, use some water if you need to get the right consistency.
- Make a sandwich with your baked pie halves and refrigerate to set, about 5 minutes.
- Enjoy!
