Oh no yet another brownie recipe! Oh yes yet another brownie recipe? Well, you know which team I’m on!
I love these brownies because they’re healthy, fudgy, sweet yet not so over indulgent that I feel bad eating them as a snack on their own.
I like to sneak in a little protein but if you don’t have this on hand just use regular flour, gf if desired as usual.
With all the nut butters, banana, protein and whatnot, they’re totally nutritious, yet they hit that brownie spot on the dot.
If I haven’t convinced you to try these yet, welp, I failed because as usual, I’ve hit my word limit!
Let me know if you give these a try!
Small-batch Banana Brownies
Servings: 8 squares
Calories: 133kcal
Equipment
- 1 Standard loaf pan
Ingredients
Wet ingredients
- 1 ripe banana, mashed (120 g) about 1/2 cup, you can sub applesauce, pumpkin puree or even sweet potato puree
- 1/4 cup nut/seed butter (64 g)
- 1/4 cup sugar (48 g)
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder (24 g)
- 1/4 cup protein powder, or flour (30 g) gf and df if desired
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (45 g)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F and line a standard loaf pan (or similar size baking dish) with parchment.
- In a medium bowl mash your banana and mix with everything else but chocolate chips.
- If the batter is too dry add 1 tsp water or milk at a time to make it pourable and spreadable. It should resemble brownie batter. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Pour into pan and bake 20 minutes or so until the edges are done and the middle is springy to touch.
- Let bars cool completely (ideally refrigerate overnight) and slice into fudgy squares. Keep refrigerated!
Notes
- If not using a food scale, use the spoon & level technique to measure your flour to avoid over-packing the flour which will lead to dry baked goods.
- The recipe as written is not overly sweet and is perfect for snacks. If you prefer dessert brownies, add an extra 1/4 cup of sugar or other granulated sweetener.

Adrian
Just made these! They arenāt too sweet which is good in my opinion. My sister loved them too lol. Never had a fail with your recipes!

Hi Adrian! So glad you and sister loved these! I like that they’re not too sweet too, they make great snacks. Hope you try more recipes, keep me posted! <3

These turned out really well! I used tahini and protein powder (with about a tablespoon of ap flour added in as well). The tahini surprisingly didn’t come through very strongly, they mostly tasted of banana and chocolate. The texture was very fudgy and rich. I also used a small 6×6 inch cake pan and 20 minutes was perfect. Can’t wait to try these with some of the banana alternatives as well!

Hi Rain! so glad to hear this and thanks so much for leaving a comment! i made these with peanut butter last week but now i’m totally craving the tahini version! if you want the tahini to really come through i would recommend making a tahini swirl on top (you can use the tip of a knife) and maybe a little sprinkle of brown sugar to offset any bitterness. keep me posted <3
Leila
My roommate and I made these today, and we loved it!! We used almond butter for the nut butter, and we added more milk until we reached a brownie batter consistency. After it was done baking, we let it cool for half an hour and dug in! They were very easy to cut through and the brownies held their shape well. The outer layers of the brownies were velvety, and the insides were fudgy, gooey, and overrall, just an explosion of flavor. Thank you for sharing!
Elif
Hi Leila – yay!! so glad to hear this. sounds like you made pan brownies correct? so glad you and your roommate enjoyed these. hope you try more recipes in the future, keep me posted! <3
Cloey
I have made this 8 times (Iām not joking) I make them and then I run out and make them again Iām surprised Iām not tired of them yet I also usually am not a fan of any dessert but this one is really good and it doesnāt make me feel bad.

Hi Cloey! 8 times, haha, that is music to my ears! love these brownies so much, they’re so simple when you have one ripe banana and they hit the spot, so chocolatey! let me know if you end up trying any other recipes š
Jagoda
They were really good – I made them with sunflower seed butter because Iām allergic. Iām wondering if they would come out well with xylitol or erythriyol instead of sugar? My dad is supposed to cut his sugar intake and I would love for him to try them as well!
Elif
Hi Jagoda,
So glad to hear it! I am absolutely obsessed with sun butter š yes to those alternative sweeteners, granulated sweeteners will work instead of sugar in all of my recipes. I would be very curious to hear what dad thinks of these š Keep me posted!
